The Rock by Flying-Glove The Rock by Flying-Glove
"So that's why I'm here, the bleeding boat drifted off and I'm stuck here in the pissing rain with my life flashing before me. Only it isn't flashing, it's crawling. Slowly. Now it's just the bare bones of what I am. A tough guy, a helpless dancer. A romantic, is it me for a moment? A bloody lunatic, I'll even carry your bags. A beggar, a hypocrite, love reign over me.

Schizophrenic? I'm bleeding Quadrophenic."

So if there's one thing that never fails to make me emotional, it's Quadrophenia- the album, not the movie, although the movie's pretty good too. I thought I would draw some artwork for it, so here's a Jimmy. Hope you like him.

You're very welcome! :D

By the way, I checked out The Temples-Colours To Life and  Shelter Song.... wowzers!!!!! Thank goodness there are still people who want to make psychedelic music of the 60s. Those are good songs! :la: I'm impressed.

You have such original ideas. This looks really neat-- the water design and everything. And the jacket looks wicked cool.

Thank you so much! The jacket is based off one I actually own, hahaha. And the water is equal parts Pop Art and Japanese print-inspired, I'm so glad you like it!

You're welcome! I never thought that Japanese-inspired prints and pop art would look so good together. And you have great taste in fashion too. ;)

Thank you so much! I think it's because they're both really bold, graphic styles.

Just thought I'd take some time to let you know how beautiful this is. I love the use of lines, a very interesting way to depict rain. I love this!

Thank you so much! The lines of rain were inspired by Hiroshige's 36 Stations Of The Tokaido series.

Oh, thank you so much! I was going for a sort of pop art and Japanese woodblock print combination. I'm glad you like it!

Thank you so much! The ocean was inspired by a combination of 1960s Pop Art and old Japanese woodblock prints.

Japanese woodblock prints have been a big inspiration to me, the works of Katsushika Hokusai in particular as well as Yoshitoshi and Utamaro.

It really is. Quadrophenia is Pete Townshend's masterpiece and I love it. So I painted this to try to communicate just how much that album connected to me on an emotional level. Thank you so much.

Man, he looks so content. Which I guess is a good thing, considering in this song, his 4 "selves" come together so he can focus on something bigger. Love the waves too :)

Awww, thank you! This one took a long time, but I think it came out well. :aww:

The way I painted the fluff was a total experiment, but I'm happy with how I came out. :thanks:

Thank you so much! I got the rock to look like that by rubbing wax on the areas where the sea spray is, then painting the whole rock a light gray, then rubbing more wax over it, then painting over it again to make some areas darker.
