Quetzalcoatl

Quetzalcoatl (Precious Serpent) is the Aztec god of life and the morning star. He is also a wind god, and his pendant is the jewel of the wind. He and his twin brother Xolotl once went down into Mictlan to create humankind out of Quetzalcoatl's blood and the bones of our ancestors. He came to the earth as a king to teach mankind how to live well. At the end of his life, he sailed off to the east with a promise to come back in the year 1 Acatl. When that year arrived, a white man came sailing from the east to the land of the Aztecs, but unlike Quetzalcoatl, he came to kill and conquer, and his arrival marked the end of the Mexica.
